Congratulations to our 4-H members, club leaders, board members, volunteers, and families on all you have achieved during the 4-H year of 2024-2025!
All county level awards and higher were presented at our special Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 15th at the Community College of Morris. Many helpers prepared and decorated the beautiful multi purpose room in the library building, and Teen Council members led us through the ceremony.
The event and all awards, trophies, and plaques were sponsored by the Morris County 4-H Association. A thank-you also to the CCM for providing the space.
See the slide show or below for the details on the award recipients.
Make sure you check out the photo album too for more pictures.
Congratulations everyone!
The recipients of the Outstanding 4-Her Award show deep involvement and commitment to the 4-H program through their club, county, state, and national activities. They also demonstrate leadership and service through their 4-H involvement.
Receiving the award this year are Benjamin J. and Samantha O.
Raima discovered 4-H through a display at her local library just a little over a year ago - and she hit the ground running towards all 4-H has to offer. She is a member of Teen Council and the Mad STEM Scientists. You may have seen her name on a few awards slides, and you have definitely seen her at all of our 4-H events, from the St. Patrick’s Day parade, Science-sational Day, Springtime with Bunnies and Chicks, Trunk-or-Treat, workshops, 4-H promotion events, and of course the Fair. Raima is always ready and willing to help! She is also the editor in chief for the printed Discoveries newsletter, which you see on your tables and around the room. Please help her with her leadership project, by sending your member-written club reports to the address on the newsletter.
Khloe is an outstanding member in all of her clubs and gives each one her all! She has turned in Excellent level record books for each of them. You see her participating everywhere. She takes advantage of all the opportunities like Fair theme design, Holiday card contest, Trunk-or-Treat, Springtime with Bunnies and Chicks, etc.. Whenever possible Khloe brings her rabbit Luna or Popcorn the Chicken to events.
She is always there for set-up and take-down, on the club and county levels. Her easy-going nature and friendly personality make her a welcoming presence to adults and youth alike. Whether at a club meeting or event we always hear from others that she made a positive impression on them.
Congratulations Raima and Khloe for being named this year’s Outstanding 4-Hers!
The National 4-H Youth in Action Award is presented each year to four outstanding 4-H youth who apply their knowledge and leadership to make a positive impact in their communities. In addition to the four national winners, the stories of 12 finalists are highlighted.
Sean M.
This year, Morris County 4-H member, Sean, was selected as a finalist becoming the 4th youth representative from NJ and the 3rd from Morris County.
Sean is an aerospace engineering student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the founder of the ResistoJets Rocketry 4-H Club. He led his team to qualify for NASA’s Student Launch competition and organized statewide STEM outreach that provided rocket-building kits and instructional resources to more than 1,500 youth and adults across New Jersey. He represented 4-H nationally at events including National 4-H Congress, Ignite by 4-H, and the National 4-H Conference, and served as a program assistant for Citizenship Washington Focus.
At Embry-Riddle, he now applies the teamwork, resilience, and outreach skills he developed in 4-H to academic research, student-led engineering projects, and leadership roles. Congratulations, Sean!
The 4-H Alumni of the Year Award is given to someone who continues to “make the best better” by sharing their time and talents with 4-H. This year’s award recipient is:
Maria R.
As a youth member in Morris County 4-H Maria participated in the Lil’ Squealers, Buckanears, and Teen Council clubs. She helped with farm activities, brought her pig to nursing homes, Science-sational Day, and the Fair. Maria also represented Morris County 4-H at the State Ag Ambassador contest while she was a member in the program. She has stayed in contact over the years, and you may have seen Maria as a judge at Public Presentations and visiting club meetings to inspire teens to participate in all 4-H has to offer. A highlight is witnessing her moderating the Open Pet Show at the Fair where her good humor and natural connection with the children makes the show a stand-out event year after year.
Thank you, Maria, for staying involved to make the 4-H experience special for our county’s youth.
This memorial award honors Clara R. Farst, longtime Fair volunteer and club leader for 12 years. This award honors her memory by recognizing someone who’s behind the scenes actions positively impacted the Morris County 4-H program. This year’s award recipients are:
Karsten E. and Holt E.
Karsten and Holt have been active in the Morris County 4-H program for over 11 years starting as youth members and now as 4-H alumni and volunteers. Both have provided incredible support to the 4-H office by assisting with the set-up, clean-up, and running of nearly every event.
In addition to their physical assistance, both have shared their talents to enhance the 4-H experience. Many of you may recognize Karsten as the “official 4-H photographer” at 4-H events, including today’s Awards Ceremony. His work ensures that the fun memories are preserved, event details are captured, and everyone’s hard work is celebrated for years to come. Karsten’s photos are featured on the 4-H website for everyone to enjoy.
Holt has also served as an “official 4-H photographer” when needed, but more recently he completed a much-needed painting project to advertise the 4-H Fair. For decades, a large, wooden sign on Hanover Ave has advertised the dates for the Morris County 4-H Fair. The sign was in desperate need of renovation. In June 2025, Holt quietly worked in the office basement carefully prepping, sketching, and painting. His work has brought new life to the sign which will be proudly displayed for years to come.
Holt and Karsten have quietly shared their time and talents. They are incredibly generous, kind-hearted, and outstanding 4-H alumni. Thank you, Karsten and Holt, for continuing to make the best, better for Morris County 4-H.
Our next award was created in honor of long-time 4-H volunteers, Rich and Beth Everett. They brought ideas to life that improved the annual 4-H Fair and the overall county 4-H program. This year, the Rich & Beth Everett Innovation Award is presented to the
Morris Marksmen and the Radical Racers clubs
We thank the members and leaders of both clubs for making the best better, specifically the newly added expansion field at the Fair. Both clubs’ activities added to the experience and visual appeal of the area, drawing visitors to that part of the Fair.
The Friend of 4-H Award is given in recognition of an organization or individual that provides significant support to the Morris County 4-H program. This year, the award is presented to:
Morris County's Buildings and Grounds, Tom Dungan
This group not only keeps our office space in the county building in shape and operational but also helps with the Fair every year by providing the gator, gas, and fire extinguishers. This year they went above and beyond in their support. They came to our rescue when we almost didn’t have traffic cones for the parking area at the Fair due to last-minute DOT staff changes. Tom Dungan was able to secure 250 cones for us and deliver them to the fairgrounds just in time.
Please join me in thanking Tom and the Department of Buildings and Grounds for their continuous support of this county’s 4-H program.
Gordon Shelton 4-H Leader Award is a State Level 4-H Shooting Sports award, presented by the State 4-H Shooting Sports Advisory Council to a club leader in recognition of their support of the 4-H Shooting Sports project. This year it goes to our Morris County 4-H leader:
Tanya McConoughey
Over the past six years, Tanya has provided leadership and instruction to the Morris Marksmen 4-H club members. This is no easy task as the project area demands careful attention to detail, strong organization skills, and clear communication. Under Tanya’s guidance, club members have represented Morris County at state level competitions with several qualifying for the national level. Thank you, Tanya, for your support of the Morris Marksmen 4-H club and congratulations on being named the 2025 Gordon Shelton 4-H Leader Award recipient.
